  • Yr5 Science Day at David Nieper Academy

    Fri 10 Feb 2023 T. Pilkington

Four excited Yr5 pupils to took part in Science Day at David Nieper Academy yesterday. They tried out 3 different experiments during the day exploring how things fly, thinking like scientists to work out how much power would be needed to launch a mini paper rocket. Having made mini aeroplanes, helicopters and rockets the highlight of the day was making a parachute that could carry and land a fresh egg without it breaking. Needless to say they did it and were one of two teams that completed the challenge successfully - well done!

  • Christmas Tree at St Leonard's Church

    Wed 11 Jan 2023

We were invited to join several other schools and businesses in the area to support the first ever Christmas Tree Festival at St Leonard's Church.

The year 4 Forest School group with Mrs Rosochacki planned and produced decorations for the tree using natural materials or nature inspired designs. These were used to decorate a 6 foot tree at the Church which was illuminated throughout the Christmas period.

We took the advice of the church who requested that the trees were bought with roots and will be planted in the school grounds in the new year.

  • Christmas Fayre Children's Raffle winners!

    Tue 20 Dec 2022

Thank you to the PTFA who organised Shirland Primary School's first ever Christmas Fayre! It was wonderful to see so many families there having fun and playing games. The children who took part in our after school 'Christmas Craft club' also had a stall selling the lovely decorations that they had been making.

As part of the Christmas Fayre there was a children's raffle. They could win extra house points, extra break time, hot chocolate at forest schools and 'brunch' with a teacher! The children who won have claimed their prizes over the last two days of the term.

The children have enjoyed their Christmas parties and the after school discos! Thank you to all parents for supporting the PTFA and raising funds for school.
