Reception
Welcome to Reception 2024-2025!
In Reception we love to learn and play! We have lots of different areas that we can explore and we like to challenge ourselves with our mini-me challenges. We have very high expectations and are striving to meet the Early Learning Goals. This includes writing super sentences, learning our numbers, counting and reading a book. We have daily phonics sessions where we learn the sounds of the letters and use actions to support our learning.
The staff who help us to learn and challenge ourselves are:
Mrs Dolman who teaches us Monday and Tuesday.
Mrs Kerry who teaches us Wednesday-Friday.
Mrs Cartledge who supports us as our High-Level Teaching and Learning Assistant all week.
Mrs Harry (learning mentor) supports our class too on a Wednesday afternoon and sometimes other days if Mrs Kerry or Mrs Dolman aren't in school.
What a lot of amazing adults we have!
Teaching in Reception is organised through a range of approaches and provides a balance of child initiated and adult-led activities:
- Planned focused activities where adults work with a small group of children at a time. Teachers will differentiate the activity to meet the needs of every child participating.
- Small group teaching of early reading and writing through a phonics based programme called Read Write Inc. Phonics
- Whole class teaching for short periods of time such as shared story time, direct teaching (for example of maths), songs and rhymes, discussions and sharing work.
- Opportunities for teachers to work alongside children as they develop their own interests in particular areas of the curriculum.
