Grants to School - How is the money you raise spent?

Medals for celebration assemblies

Each year the PTFA supply thae medals given out on a Friday before the celebration assembly that the children always wear with pride and can then take home to keep.

Outdoor Library Cupboard & Beanbags
We have recently bought an outdoor library cupboard, outdoor beanbags and reading books for Year 6 along with a set of pans for the KS2 cooking area.

Table and Beanbags for the Library
We have recently purchased a round table and a selection of beanbags and cushions to enhance our already fabulous library.

£5 Book Fair Vouchers and a Library Spinner

Each year, the PTFA funds a £5 book voucher for every pupil in school at a cost of around £700. Pupils spend their voucher on books at the Scholastic Book fair. When all the vouchers are spent the school earns commission to spend on more books to replenish the library. In addition to this the PTFA has bought a library spinner costing £188 to display books. This spinning bookcase is a very popular way to browse through the library.

Play Equipment and Topic Costumes

Outdoor play equipment in KS1 including fence easels, cones and a mark making kit, along with scooters and the lovely caterpillar tunnel.

Various costumes for a KS2 topic work.

Competion prizes - over the years we have had various competitons giving the children the chance to win some fabulous prizes such as plate painting at Denby Pottery and Bauble painting at The Pottery at Alfreton.

Football Coaching and Fencing

The PTFA has supported the school in providing good quality sport provision for its pupils. After school clubs funded by the PTFA have included football skills taught by coaches from Alfreton Football Club and a fencing club. A total of £570 has been spent.

Educational Signs and Costumes in KS1

To enhance provision in the early years setting, new educational signs have been purchased. This bright and cheerful contribution to our pupil’s early education would have cost the school £384.
In addition to this the PTFA has recently bought a range of dressing up clothes to boost pupils enjoyment of role-play.

Water Bottles and Caps

Every new pupil at Shirland Primary School is given a cap with the school logo on it and a named water bottle. They are very practical additions to the school uniform and the children look very smart in them.

World Book Day Fancy Dress Prizes

In previous years the PTFA funded book prizes for a child in each class who have dressed up for World Book Day.

Pantomine Tickets

Each year the PTFA funds the Schools' trip to the pantomime. Around £1,500 pays for the tickets and the coach to Mansfield.

Coach to Dukes Barn Residential

We also fund the cost of the bus for the KS2 residential each year.

Thank You!

It is down to the continuous support of parents and friends that the PTFA can make these grants, so a big thank you to everyone who has helped in the past by attending events or helped out as and when required. We look forward to your continued support in the future!
