The school choir was given a wonderful opportunity to participate in the largest school choir in the world, the Young Voices concert. The event, which started 24 years ago, is held at 5 different venues across the UK and our choir traveled to the first event at FlyDSA Arena in Sheffield.
24 of our pupils from KS2, supported by Mrs Newton, Mrs Buxton and Mrs Rosochacki, joined around 5000 pupils from schools in Derbyshire and Yorkshire. The experience started with a two hour rehearsal, led by the Young Voices conductor and musical director. In this time the different schools learnt how to sing together as one giant choir and how to sing different parts of the same song together.
During the concert, the Young Voices choir sang a variety of musical pieces and even accompanied Ruti (The Voice winner of 2018), Tony Hadley (singer from Spandau Ballet) and The Shires (a British country duo).
Even though it was a tiring day, the children (and adults) had a wonderful experience, singing and dancing in front of family and friends. The children did an excellent job, as did Mrs Newton, who arranged the trip and put a lot of time and energy into all the practices needed to learn the songs.
Well done everyone!
