The last week of April saw our cross-country teams in action at the Amber Valley School Sports' Partnership races on Alfreton Park. Shirland Primary has got some terrific runners with all the races being won by children from this school and with Shirland coming home victorious as overall winning school.
The Year 3/4 Girls' race was won by Tania Smith. The Year 3/4 Boys' race was won by Owen James with Ben Morris in second place. The Year 5/6 Girls' race was won by Lauren Marshall and the Year 5/6 Boys' race saw all three placings taken by Shirland, with Jack Gibb first, Tyron Smith second and Ryan Hadley third. Well done to everyone who took part - a fabulous team of 32 runners in all!
The boys also took part in the Alfreton and District Schools' football tournament at Ripley Junior School and were very unlucky not to come away winners. Although they played 5 games and won them all without conceding a goal, their final match was a draw and they lost the competition because they had scored two goals less than their opponents. I'm sure they'd have won if it had gone to extra time!!! Well played boys - I was really proud of you.
Congratulations to the girls' team who also made the finals of their tournament and played really well. You were a credit to the school.
